TEN TURTLE 'GUIDES' IN THE CENTRE OF LIMASSOL

Filenews 10 March 2023 - byIoanna Mantzipa

Ten wonderful caretta-caretta turtle sculptures have been placed in various places in the centre of Limassol by the Limassol Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company, as part of its activities. The aim is for visitors and especially tourists to be able to discover the historic centre of Limassol through a circular route, while at the same time through this initiative, awareness will be achieved regarding the protection of the species of turtles.

It is an action that is electronically supported by a digital tool where the map is combined with 360 degree photos and information material. Visitors have the opportunity through an electronic code (QR code) to enjoy and discover the center of Limassol through technology, gamification, artistic creation, while receiving information about each reference point. The ten beautiful sculpted turtles have special details in texture like a real turtle, while they have been created by local artists

Speaking to journalists during the presentation, ETAL President Tonis Antoniou said that with the push of a button on their mobile phone, visitors and especially tourists can be informed about the sights as well as the history and culture of Limassol through a route of ten turtles. "This is a supportive project, which will help not only the many tourists who come here and from other cities, but most importantly also cruise ships whose number has increased significantly."

On her part, Mrs. Daphne Trimikliniotou, on behalf of the artists, congratulated ETAL for the initiative and the opportunity it gave them so that they could also contribute to the effort to raise public awareness about the destruction that exists in the environment and especially in turtles. "On behalf of the artists it is a cry of anguish, an appeal, if we want to have hope for a better tomorrow," he said.
