The reactions that have been caused in the last twenty-four hours in the community of Mesa Chorio in Paphos are intense, due to the decision to use pieces of land for the deposition of large volumes of soil and aggregates, which are removed from the point where the works for the construction of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road are being carried out.
Both the Community Council of Mesa Chorio and the affected landowners complain, considering that usable land properties are being destroyed and their opinion is not taken into account at all in order for these materials to end up in pieces located in another area of the village that they have already indicated.
Speaking to the CNA, the president of the Community Council of Mesa Chorio, Neophytos Assos, said that "what is happening is unacceptable and the affected people are justifiably protesting, since these materials end up in usable fields that have olive trees, carob trees and are arable". The owners are right to complain, Mr. Assos added, "since the trucks are full of soil and they throw it on fertile pieces of land in some of which there are seasonal crops or which are located in a good area with nice views that may in the future receive residential exploitation and development".
To this end, after the reactions caused, in the Community Council, a meeting was held to which deputies of the Province were also invited, while the local authority does not exclude, as a reaction measure, the possibility of following the legal route, said Mr. Assos to stop this situation.
