Almost two years after the formalization of the acquisition of the building complex of the old Paphos KEN by the Municipality of Geroskipou, the processes for the utilization of the huge space are now in full swing, but at the level of planning even not construction works. The municipal authority, with the assistance of state bodies acting in an advisory capacity, is at the stage of public consultation with the primary objectives of finding the necessary funds for any development decided, but also for the central idea of this development.
Speaking to "F", the mayor of Geroskipou, Kyriakos Hadjivasilis, referred to a project of huge dimensions in economic and construction level for a small municipal authority such as Geroskipou and clarified that the resources and investors who will undertake this promotion are being sought. The loan money secured by the Municipality, Mr. Chatzivasilis clarified, concerned exclusively the acquisition of the site by the owner Bank of Cyprus and not its use to promote development.
"Today, we are still at the stage of public consultation to come up with the type and specificity of any developments that take place in the area", he stressed. "A lot of attention and reflection is required on what will happen in this huge area, which is also historically charged for our Municipality".
Mayor Geroskipou clarified that the two listed buildings of the old KEN, namely the then Governor's Office and the old Garrison have already come into the possession of the Municipality and are not an object that will be included in any proposals and plans of the investor for the development of the remaining area.
As it is also known, the Municipality has reached an agreement with ETEK in order for the scientific body to act as an auxiliary and advisory body to the municipal authority on the issue of the large development planned by the Municipality and its central web, after the purchase of the old Paphos KEN.
"Because this is a huge area and listed buildings of great value and importance", observed Kyriakos Hadjivasilis, "we have agreed with ETEK to assist the plans we will prepare so that this development is appropriate".
At the same time, the municipal authority, with the involvement of other scientists and technocrats, is proceeding with the preparatory work in all areas so that the huge redevelopment project can begin to be implemented as soon as possible.
The plans, following the agreement between the Municipality of Geroskipou and the Bank of Cyprus for the purchase of the historical site by the local authority, provide for the promotion and protection of the preserved parts of the area, as well as its organic connection with the rest of the central fabric of Geroskipou.
