The Permanent Assize Court of Limassol yesterday imposed a sentence of six and a half years in prison on the 23-year-old accused in the case of importing 4 kg of cannabis from Greece to Cyprus. The 23-year-old had been found guilty after his own admission to the offences of illegal importation of drugs, illegal possession and illegal possession for the purpose of supplying to other persons. He was given concurrent sentences of six and a half years on two of the four charges he faced, including importing and possessing for the purpose of supplying 4 kilograms of cannabis. Last Monday (20/02) his 27-year-old friend and co-defendant in this case was sentenced to six and a half years in the same case.

According to the facts of the case, the 23-year-old, due to his kink with his 27-year-old convicted co-defendant, went in August 2022 to Greece where he arranged the import of drugs which were placed well hidden on a pallet with household appliances and clothing so as not to be detected. Then on 8/9/2022 he went with the other two co-defendants to warehouse offices in Limassol where he received the pallet with the drugs since his name was written on the documents of the transport company, as the sender.

According to the judgment, the defendant had no knowledge of the identity of the persons involved in the shipment of the drugs or the final recipient. The 23-year-old wanted to help his 27-year-old friend in an attempt to help him "untangle" but without any benefit.

The case continues for a hearing for the third defendant aged 27 who does not admit to any of the charges against him. The 27-year-old appears to be the person who arranged and handwritten in documents the names of the recipient and the sender on the two on the pallets.
