BEWARE VISITS FROM PERSONS POSING AS EMPLOYEES/ASSOCIATES OF EAC

Filenews 24 March 2023

Recently, EAC customers have brought to the Organization's attention that they receive visits from persons posing as employees or associates of EAC, who, after first interrupting the supply to the consumer's premises, offer to restore the electricity supply, provided that the consumer pays a specific amount of money.

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus, in today's announcement, clarifies that it has nothing to do with these individuals and calls on consumers to be particularly careful.

Interruption of the electricity supply occurs in the following cases:

  • Damage to the electricity network affecting a wider area
  • Planned Interruption for which affected consumers are previously informed
  • Problem in the ESA asphalt carrier (fuse) or microswitch. In this case, the customer should call the EAC Distribution for a safety repair or even a reset of an Automatic Microswitch and will be subject to the appropriate charges that will appear on the next electricity bill.
  • Non-payment of an electricity bill of which the consumer has already been informed.

In case of damage, EAC's crews go to the area and take care of the quickest possible repair of the damage. The planned interruptions are listed on the EAC website with an expected recovery time. For these two cases there is no charge to the affected consumers.

In cases of interruption due to non-timely payment, the consumer should settle his obligations and then he is officially informed by an EAC operator about the time of reconnection of his premises. In addition, the charge for reconnection for non-payment appears on the consumer's next bill.

It is noted that EAC staff who visit the premises of electricity consumers always have at their disposal their corporate identity, which consumers are encouraged to ask from employees to present it to them.
