IN THE ASSIZE COURT, THE BRITISH MAN FOR THE DEATH OF THE MOTORCYCLIST

The trial of the 45-year-old British man who, in the early hours of Saturday, January 21, allegedly deliberately hit Ioannis Polycarpou's motorcycle with his car, causing his death, begins today at the Paphos Assize Court, after an argument they had in a beer garden over personal matters.

The 45-year-old, a permanent resident of Paphos, is indicted on charges of premeditated murder and leaving the scene without assistance. He denies guilt, but CCTV images and testimonies of other drivers held by the Police show the 45-year-old hitting the motorcycle on which the victim was riding with his car, while according to the testimonies he dragged the victim to the asphalt for about 70 metres.

According to police investigations, on the fateful evening the Briton tried to attack the victim and in a beer garden on the Avenue Tombs of the Kings, while at one point he was looking for his vehicle holding an iron crowbar.

From the images recorded by closed circuit shops in the area, the Briton followed the victim after his departure, beat him and fatally wounded him. Another driver who realized what had happened followed the vehicle of the Briton who, however, disappeared in the alleys of the district of Mouttalos.

A few hours later when the Briton was spotted his vehicle was hit in the front and had been spray-painted at the crash site.

Update - trial postponed until 21 March.
