A case of conspiracy to commit a felony, rioting, assault with actual bodily harm, and offenses related to the Law on combating certain forms and manifestations of racism and xenophobia is being investigated by the Police.

Specifically, at around 8.30 last night, about ten people, having their faces covered with hoods and masks, entered a university venue in Limassol, where an event related to issues related to sexual orientation was being held by a student union.

According to the evidence under investigation, the suspects shouted homophobic slogans, while one of the suspects, with a fire extinguisher that was in the area, surrounded the persons attending the event.

Regarding to the evidence under investigation, one of the suspected persons, attacked one of the persons present at the event, aged 21 years, hitting him with a fist in the face. The 21-year-old person went to Limassol General Hospital, where he received first aid and was subsequently discharged.

The ICF Limassol is investigating the case.

A case of theft of a large amount of money from a vehicle is being investigated by the ICF Paphos.

According to the Spokesperson of the Paphos ADE and Head of the Paphos ICF, Michalis Nikolaou, at 02:00 in the morning, a 38-year-old man who works in an Association in Paphos reported that between the hours of February 22 at 19:00 to February 23, 00:15 while his car was parked outside the Association and he was inside the Association and was working, the amount of €13,200 euros and $2,500 was stolen from his vehicle. 

As he reported to the Police, the money was the product of profit in a casino of the occupied territories which he had kept in his vehicle.

The case is being investigated by the ICF Paphos.

Clashes occurred last night at the Pournara accommodation centre, which were suppressed by the intervention of the Police. Two guests and a police officer were injured in the fighting.

A spokesperson for the Police Communication Office said, the clashes occurred around 11:30 p.m. with an as yet unknown cause.

The fight was suppressed when members of the Police intervened, while three persons involved in the fight, two men 45, 38 and a minor of 17 years old, were stopped.

According to the spokesman, two guests and a police officer were injured in the fighting, who were taken to a hospital where they were offered first aid and released.

The Permanent Assize Court, which met today in Larnaca, sentenced a 25-year-old to 3.5 years of immediate imprisonment and a 24-year-old to a year of immediate imprisonment, in connection with a case involving grievous bodily harm and injury.

The events of the case unfolded on 4/7/2020 in Larnaca, when a 40-year-old manager of a café in Larnaca, was attacked by a group of people, including the two above persons, and then transferred injured to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was detained for hospitalization.

Subsequently, the above two persons were arrested on the basis of court warrants in relation to this case and were detained.

A six-year prison sentence was imposed today on a 64-year-old man who was found guilty during the trial of a drug trafficking case by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court. The 64-year-old in particular was found guilty of importing a large amount of cannabis, found in a postal parcel, in Larnaca, in April, 2022.

The amount of cannabis, weighing 6 kg and 640 grams, was found in a package that had arrived by post, at a post office in Larnaca, in April, 2022. On April 12, the 64-year-old went to the post office to collect the package, which was not delivered to him, since he was not in possession of an identity card to confirm his details as a recipient. The 64-year-old's movements were considered suspicious, as a result of which the package in question was checked. The inspection revealed that inside the carton there were hidden among clothing, six packages of nylon, which contained 6 kg and 640 grams of cannabis in total.

The 64-year-old was spotted later that day by members of the Police and interrogator admitted that he went to the post office in order to collect the package in question. He was arrested on a court warrant and detained for the purpose of investigating the case, (Police Bulletin No. 1, dated 13/04/2022, relevant). completion of the police examinations, the Police immediately registered the case for trial by the Permanent Assize Court of Larnaca, while the 64-year-old remained in custody as a suspect, according to the instructions of the Permanent Assize Court. The six-year prison sentence imposed on him is effective from April 12, 2022, from when he was detained.
