The Limassol District Court today found guilty the 32-year-old accused of the triple fatal accident that occurred on May 27, 2017, cutting the thread of the lives of the three young people who were riding in a double-cabin vehicle, Andreas Yiasemis, 32 years old, Dimitris Savvas also 32 years old and Panagiotis Stefanou, 26 years old.
The Court today found the accused guilty on all charges with the most serious being three charges, causing death by negligence, in violation of Article 210 of the Criminal Code. Following today's ruling, the Court set a new date early next month for events and sentencing.
It should be noted that after the decision, the 32-year-old defendant was placed on trial and will be taken to the Central Prison as until today he was free with conditions. The triple fatality occurred a few minutes after 5 in the morning when the accused driver violated the red traffic light at the intersection of Synotropismos and Grigori Afxentiou streets in Pano Polemidia, instantly killing all three passengers.
The defendant, a few hours before the provocation of the fatal, was involved in a fight. Specifically while driving at low speed when the taxi driver horned him and then the 32-year-old got out of his car and hit him in the face and head.
The Limassol District Court had sentenced him to 6 months in prison for the beating, as he was found guilty of assault by causing actual bodily harm and insulting the taxi driver. The judicial process lasted for a long time with the case itself being considered very difficult, however the Legal Service today succeeded in convicting the accused to all 14 charges.
