The Trade Unions of Cyprus are calling en masse all employees to a Pancyprian pan-syndicalist three-hour, warning work stoppage, next Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 12:00 to 15:00.
Through this action, the trade union movement as a whole expresses the readiness of the workers to safeguard and defend the ATA, the Organizations PEO, SEK, PASYDY, DEOK, OELMEK, POED, OLTEK, SAK, SYPYK, POASO, PASYKI and PSK state in a joint statement.
"ATA is a unique tool for restoring workers' incomes, in the face of ever-increasing accuracy and inflationary pressures. The existing agreement, which has already expired, to pay only 50%, is not considered satisfactory.
The Organizations reiterate their unanimous position for the full restoration of the ATA and its performance on the basis of its philosophy, as provided for in the Transitional Agreement of July 2017. All Organizations call on all stakeholders (Government and Employers' Organizations) to respect the content of the Agreement," they note.
Full payment
At the same time, the Trade Unions of Cyprus express the common position that the full payment of the ATA and its extension for all is imperative, while rejecting any attempt to abolish or alter its philosophy.
In this context, and in view of the declaration of deadlock in the ongoing social dialogue by the Ministry of Labour, the realization of a three-hour pan-union mobilization aims "to send a message in every direction, that the workers of Cyprus, united, react to actions and policies aimed at further deregulation of labor, deconstruct the system of labor relations and undermine or question workers' rights".
More specifically, it was decided to hold meetings at the following points:
Nicosia: Meeting at 13:00 in the courtyard of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. Finance and then march to the Ministry of Labour, Welfare & Cc. Insurance.
Limassol: Meeting at 13:00 at the Dioikitirio.
Larnaca: Meeting at 13:00 at the District Administration.
Paralimni: Meeting at 13:00 at the District Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Work Providence and Cc. Insurance.
Paphos: Meeting at 13:00 at the District Administration. |
Finally, the Organizations call on their members to be constantly vigilant for further escalation of measures depending on developments.
The announcement notes that essential services will comply with the prescribed procedures to avoid inconvenience to the public. For the Security Forces, those who are off duty and without wearing a uniform will participate.
