Since Wednesday night (11/1) the new Limassol stadium "Alphamega Stadium" has been damaged by thousands of euros, as the first historic derby held between the Limassol teams, AEL and Apollon, was once again marked with incidents. Some brainless men of both teams played a seat war, tearing off the seats of the stadium's north and east stands during halftime.
In the hands of the investigators is material from the closed circuit surveillance of the stadium, which is being studied in an attempt to ascertain the details of the brainless people who took part in the seat war. According to the information of "F", the damage to the new stadium amounts to about €25,000, as the rioters dismantled and destroyed more than 200 seats, broke part of the glass partition, and caused damage to the toilets of the stadium.
The horrific events that took place in the new stadium took place after the end of the first half, when a firecracker was initially thrown and then the AEL fans approached the dividing railing, causing the Apollonists to react. The latter did not remain uninvolved and dismantled the seats of the stands and began to throw them towards the AEL supporters. The incident lasted for about five minutes, with MMAD members rushing to the scene and removing the rioters.
For the derby, 130 supervisors and 250 members of the Police worked while around the stadium was the anti-riot vehicle, Ajax. The fans were thoroughly checked upon entering the stadium, while thorough checks were also carried out in the previous days inside and outside the stadium.
