REINSTATEMENT OF PAPHOS AIRPORT EXTENSION REQUEST

Filenews 16 January 2023 - by Dora Christodoulou

The urgent building upgrade and provision of high quality services at Paphos International Airport are requested by Pafos operators on the occasion of the "surge" of the airport's traffic last year. Wanting everything to be ready for an even better summer this year,  those involved locally have already begun to push in the direction of both the state and the airport management company, so that Paphos International Airport can be upgraded according to its ever-increasing importance for the island's tourism product.

Already the chairman of the Coordinating Committee of Pafos Parties and Organizations (SEKO), Phedonas Phedonos, sent a letter to Hermes about the problem with the endless queues observed on a frequent basis last summer and expressed Pafos' dissatisfaction with the unacceptable situation prevailing at the airport, both in the departures and arrivals area and in the outdoor waiting areas, whenever air traffic was particularly high.

In order to avoid similar phenomena in the future, the local authorities estimate, the construction works for the building upgrade of the airport should begin intensively without delay and before the upcoming summer season, with a view to implementation in 2023.

"Both the Municipality of Paphos and the tourist agencies of the province will not tolerate the new tourist season finding Paphos airport in the same degraded condition as in previous years," they warn.
