A British permanent resident of Paphos woke up at midnight on Thursday, from noises inside the house and was surprised to find that an unknown man was inside the house trying to steal her personal belongings.
The timely awakening of the woman and the shouts she made calling for help, forced the man, of African origin, to flee. Neighbors who heard the voices, rushed to her aid and a few minutes later after chasing the man they located him along with the police officers who had already arrived at the scene and immobilized him.
It was found that this was a 20-year-old man from Cameroon, who had burglarized the residence and was trying at the time he was noticed by the British woman to steal her watch and valuables from a specific place where she kept them.
The 20-year-old was taken into custody and examinations are ongoing.
