The construction permit for the private power plant of Paramount Energy Corporation Ltd in Larnaca district’s Tochni area is expected to be issued soon, Philenews reported on Wednesday.
Paramount Energy Corporation Ltd’s main activity is the production of energy through the use of conventional fuel and specifically natural gas.
Larnaca District Administration head Odysseas Hadjistefanou also told Philenews that the planning permit was issued at the end of 2021 but the delay was quite justified.
Because all the required procedures and consultations with the relevant government departments and services had to be carried out.
“Consultations with the Department of Environment were only completed last November, confirming that all conditions set in the recommendation (for the operation of the private plant) have been met,” he also said.
When fully operational the project is estimated to produce annually around 650,000MWh of electricity.
This will significantly help cover the deficit in electricity production that Cyprus is expected to face within the next years.
