A 34-year-old man stole a copper pipe from a substation of the Electricity Authority in an apartment building, as a result of which he plunged the entire area into darkness for some time. The theft of EAC's equipment was reported by an employee of a telecommunications company who said that he was informed through a message about an electricity outage in a specific apartment building in Paphos, in which his company has activities.

The employee complained that he went to the place and it was found that the door of the Authority's substation in the said apartment building was breached and there was an unknown man. When the employee of the company tried to stop him he escaped and left various documents on the scene.

Police examinations revealed that this was a 34-year-old man, who was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. Further in his possession was found other property which he possessed illegally.

The damage caused by the suspect's illegal intervention in the substation was repaired by the EAC a few hours later and the electricity supply in the area was restored.
