DUST, RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS ON THE MENU

 Filenews 29 January 2023

Weak low pressure affects the area. Dilute dust may be observed from time to time in the atmosphere.

Today, initially the weather will be partly cloudy, while in the western half of the island isolated rains are expected. However, from noon onwards the weather will become mostly cloudy and local rains or isolated thunderstorms are expected from time to time. Locally, in the higher mountains it is possible to fall sleet or snow. The winds will blow southwest to northwest, in the morning weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort to become after noon moderate, 4 Beaufort and transient in the southwest to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent, on the south and east coasts and up to turbulent, on the west and north coasts. The temperature will rise to around 19 degrees inland, around 20 degrees on the south and east coasts, around 18 on the west and north coasts and around 10 degrees on the higher mountains.

Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy and in places mostly cloudy, while isolated rains are expected without excluding the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm, mainly on the west and north coasts. During the morning hours, it is not excluded that in areas of the inland and southeastern beaches, thin fog may form. The winds will blow mainly northwest to northeast, weak, 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm until a little turbulent, on the south, east and locally on the north coast and a little turbulent, on the west coast. The temperature will drop to around 6 degrees inland, around 9 degrees on the south and east coasts, around 10 on the west and north coasts and around zero on the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form.

On Monday and Tuesday, the weather will be mostly cloudy and local rains and isolated thunderstorms as well as snow or sleet are expected intermittently in the higher mountains. From Tuesday noon onwards, a temporary improvement in the phenomena is expected, while from late Tuesday night and Wednesday the weather will again be mostly cloudy with local rains, in places isolated thunderstorms and snow in the higher mountains.

The temperature will drop slightly on Monday and change little on Tuesday to hover near the average climatic values. On Wednesday, a further slight drop in temperature is expected to be below the average climatic values.
