Filenews 14 December 2022 - by Ioanna Mantzipa

Facing charges of causing death by negligence, driving under the influence of alcohol, increased speed and violation of red traffic lights is a 35-year-old Russian driver, who in the early hours of Wednesday (7/12) on the coastal road of Georgios Vasileos in Germasogeia caused the death of a 62-year-old from Hungary, a mother of two children.

The order of his six-day detention expired on Tuesday (13/12) and the 35-year-old appeared again before the Limassol District Court where he was called to answer the four charges he faces with the most serious being the offense of causing death by negligence. The accused driver now asked the Court for time to respond and the Judge ordered that he remain in custody until next Monday (19/12). It should be noted that the 35-year-old is in Cyprus as a visitor and his residence permit expires on December 16, 2022.

Regarding the investigation of the terrible fatality, the information of "F" states that the 35-year-old was interrogated again, admitted to the examiners of the Limassol Traffic Police that he passed on red, refuting his initial claim that the traffic light was orange.

From the further examinations that were carried out but also from the study of the closed surveillance circuits, it was found that during the fatal incident there was no second vehicle with the information that wanted to have identity matches, not confirmed.

As for the exact speed of the 35-year-old's vehicle at the time he rammed the victim's vehicle, a competent source told "F" that this cannot be ascertained. As explained to us, due to a breakdown of the electronic system of the vehicle it was not possible to recover all the data that was in the memory of the Russian's luxury car.

We recall that in the hands of the examiners there are two important testimonies from eyewitnesses. According to information from "F", these are two security guards, who in the fateful minutes were inside the sidewalk in an adjacent premises and reported that they saw the 35-year-old's vehicle driven at an increased speed and violating the red light of the said junction.
