PAPHOS - THE PRACTICE OF CREATING ARBITRARY GARBAGE DUMPS CONTINUES

A significant problem still exists in Paphos from the arbitrary dumping of aggregates in every open space of the city and the peri-urban area. Citizens complain that similar unacceptable practices are recorded in many parts of the province, demonstrating that the changes that have been initiated with the operation of the Green Points, have not yet become the property of a large proportion of the citizens.

As a result of the current situation, significant pollution is recorded in many parts of the Pafos district from the deposition of aggregates, mainly pruning and household appliances.

The problem has already been recorded by environmentalist ecologists, who additionally complain that additionally the phenomenon of pollution by the unconscious is particularly intense in the unique environmental value peninsula of Akamas. Visitors, ecologists complain, create "mountains" of garbage during their visits to various parts of Akamas, thus creating a danger to the ecosystem of the area and an unacceptable image to the many tourists who visit the area.

The still significant dimensions of the problem were the reason why the Municipality of Paphos recently made new recommendations to the public to use the Green Point of Mouttalos. [Chlorakas, Peyia and/or Geroskipou]
