In view of the upcoming festive season of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany, a period during which commercial transactions are expected to increase, the Police recommends caution to the public and especially to managers and staff of shops selling products or providing services, in relation to the authentication of banknotes, during their various transactions.
According to an announcement by the Police, the National Banknote Analysis Centre of the Criminal Investigation Service – Ministry of Defence, taking into account that counterfeit banknotes are occasionally found in circulation and in view of the festive season, informs the public that, where during various financial transactions there is doubt about the authenticity of banknotes, they can visit the website of the European Central Bank (www.ecb.europa.eu ), where information on the security features of banknotes is provided in the electronic link https://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/banknotes/html/index.en.html.
