POURNARA - 1,100 RESIDENTS HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR AIDS

 Filenews 3 November 2022

One thousand hundred residents of the "Pournara" migrant accommodation centre have tested positive for the AIDS virus and another eight hundred have been diagnosed with tuberculosis, the Minister of Interior, Nikos Nouris, told state television.

He stressed, however, that there is no cause for concern, as in most cases, the necessary medical care has been provided.

At the same time, Nikos Nouris reiterated that the Interior Ministry is focusing its effort on limiting the influx of migrants from the Green Line.

He noted that, in 2022, Cyprus is in the first place among the Member States of the European Union, in terms of pushbacks of migrants, with six and a half thousand people.

He also underlined that the most important thing is that the huge efforts made by the Republic of Cyprus to return foreign nationals to Pakistan, India and Vietnam are paying off in recent weeks.

He also said that in a few days' time a delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo would come to Cyprus, in the hope of reaching an agreement on the return of migrants to the African country.
