EXERCISE OF THE EUROPEAN CIVIL PROTECTION MECHANISM IN CYPRUS - 5-11 November

 Filenews 3 November 2022

The Civil Defence Force of Cyprus, in cooperation with the respective Civil Protection Organizations of Germany (THW), the Civil Protection Organization of Austria, the Austrian Red Cross and with the support of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA), will conduct in Cyprus an Assessment Mission Course (AMC) of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, on 5-11 November 2022.

Around 20 experts from different countries will take part in the exercise, with the aim of transferring know-how and experience in needs assessment and response to EU Civil Protection Mechanism missions.

Based on a scenario, which aims at the prevention and preparedness of emergency management, the teams of trainees will visit all the cities of free Cyprus, where they will meet with involved local services and organizations to exchange data and inform how to respond to them, as well as the needs that may arise.

This AMC training program has been conducted with great success since 2006 and is considered one of the top programs of the Mechanism due to the high level of education, but also the degree of difficulty, to which the trainees are called to respond.

Since the launch of the program in 2006, more than 1300 people have been trained in Cyprus from the 34 countries participating in the Mechanism, as well as from international organizations such as the United Nations and the Red Cross, as well as from third countries. Several of them, as accredited Civil Protection Specialists, have staffed several EU missions in major disasters around the world.

This year, this AMC program of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which over the last 16 years has successfully offered knowledge and experience to various state agencies and organizations in Cyprus, completes its work, opening from 2023 a new cycle of trainings, under a new theme.
