POLICE CHECKS ON E-SCOOTERS 14 NOVEMBER TO 20 NOVEMBER

 Filenews 15 November 2022

The Police announces an intensification of the checks it carries out on the road network, for the proper use of personal mobility devices (e-scooters), based on the legislation that recently entered into force and governs the use of such devices.

The intensified controls will be carried out, from Monday 14 November until Sunday 20 November 2022, throughout Cyprus.

The aim of the inspections is the compliance of the operators of electric scooters with the provisions of the new legislation, but also to raise their awareness on road safety issues when using these devices.

In parallel with the traffic checks, the Police continues to enlighten the public about the provisions of the new legislation on electric scooters and their proper use on the road.

Among the main provisions of the Legislation that came into force, are the obligation of operators to wear a protective helmet at all times and during the night high-viz jackets.   At the same time, it is determined that the movement of such devices can only take place on a road with a maximum speed limit of 30XA, on a bicycle path, on a bicycle lane or on an extension of a bicycle path that has a special sign. On motorways, expressways, squares or pedestrian streets (unless otherwise specified by the municipality concerned), their use is prohibited.

Always according to the Legislation, only persons over the age of 14 have the right to use e-scooters.
