The Deputy Ministry of Tourism announces that self-catering accommodation that has operated before the entry into force of the Regulation of the Establishment and Operation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation amending Law 9(I)/2020, which was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic on 07.02.2020, must be registered in the relevant register of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism by 06.02.2023. Amending Law 7(I)/2022 is also relevant.

Based on the relevant legislation, applicants may advertise and/or rent the self-catering accommodation, provided that it is registered in the Register of Self-Service Accommodation and has received a special mark and registration number from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, which will be indicated on each platform where the accommodation will be advertised, as well as in all relevant transactions.

The registration fee for self-catering accommodation is €222 every three years.

It is reminded that income from the rental of self-catering accommodation is subject to income tax and VAT based on the provisions of the respective legislations. They will also be subject to overnight fees to local authorities. For relevant information, interested parties should contact the relevant Services (Department of Income Tax and Local Authorities - local Municipalities and Community Councils).

Self-catering accommodation is divided into the following three (3) subcategories:

1. Tourist Furnished Villas

2. Tourist Furnished Residences

3. Apartments.

It is noted that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has the ability to ex officio check any self-catering accommodation to verify the existence of a registration permit in the registry, as well as the compliance by the entrepreneur with the terms of registration of the accommodation.
