ABUSE OF DOGS FOUND IN PIT

Filenews 30 November 2022 - by Natasha Christoforou

A case of animal abuse is being investigated by the Aradippou Police after the rescue of two dogs, which were recovered the day before yesterday afternoon from a pit with entrails in Kalo Chorio, Larnaca. The animals, which do not carry an identification chip, are believed to have been abandoned in the previous days by unscrupulous hunters and subsequently thrown by another person into the pit, which was 17 meters deep.

The pit, in which there were offal and dead sheep and goats, was found covered with sheet metal and wood, a fact that raised suspicions from the first moment and it is for this reason that a case of abuse and the commission of offenses related to the legislation for the protection and welfare of animals began to be investigated by the Police.

As it turned out, the pit was in an unfenced area and was located within the boundaries of a farmer's premises, who in the previous days had reported that stray dogs attacked animals on his farm. The breeder will be questioned by the Police, while statements will be taken from other people, in an attempt to ascertain how the two dogs ended up in the pit.

The case came to light, after information to the Police and a long operation. The two dogs were recovered alive but in poor condition. One of them even had twine tied around his neck. The two dogs, which were malnourished, were received by the Veterinary Services and then transported for care to a private unit.
