OF THE 92 WANTED IN EUROPE, 5 CONCERN CYPRUS

Filenews 13 October 2022 - by Michalis Hadjivassilis

Five foreigners wanted by the Cypriot authorities for various crimes, from murders to armed robberies, are among the 92 most notorious wanted in Europe by Europol. Among them are two dangerous thugs belonging to the organization "Pink Panthers" who rob jewellery stores.

A list published annually by the European Police includes the names of notorious criminals wanted for membership in organised crime. As the spokesperson of the Police, Christos Andreou, explained to "F", the slogan of this year's campaign of Europol and the European Network of Active Search Teams of Wanted Persons / ENFAST is: "You could dismantle the network - #GameOver". In fact, graphics were prepared for the campaign that revolve around a series of playing cards, representing various types of criminals:

- Rigas: Head of criminal organizations

- Checkers: Drug dealers

- Valesh: Violent criminals

- Joker: Organizer

The slogan "You could dismantle the network - #GameOver", is based on the idea that a criminal network is like a tower of playing cards. Each playing card plays a role, supporting the tower and the criminal network. A piece of information that leads to the identification of a wanted person, removes a playing card from the tower from papers and the entire criminal network can collapse.

The wanted by the Cypriot authorities are:

-Mehmet Akpinar, 28-year-old Turkish national and Ahmet Sally, 49 years old from Bulgaria. They are wanted for the knife murder of British national George Henry Lowe on 14/8/2016 in Ayia Napa and for the attempted murder of a second Briton, also with a knife.

-Goran Milasinovic, 43, from Montenegro wanted for armed robberies, described as dangerous. According to the details given by Europol, on 28/02/09, three gunmen entered a jewellery store in Limassol and stole various types of jewellers worth €212,936. From the evidence collected by the Police as evidence, his DNA profile was matched and identified. The person in question is believed to be part of the broader Pink Panthers (Pink Panthers) criminal group.

-Goran Mladenovic, 54 from Serbia described as dangerous. On 16/12/2012, two perpetrators who were believed to belong to the Pink Panthers crime ring, broke the wall and entered from an adjacent building into a jewellery store in Limassol and managed to steal valuables amounting to €617,081.77. They fled after being chased by a guard. The forensic examination of the scene managed to isolate a DNA profile that had been matched to that of the wanted person.

-Alex Burrell, 54 years old Albanian. On 23/06/2016 and at about 22:10 in Ayia Napa the escapee and an accomplice wearing hoods entered a restaurant and with pistols and automatically killed three people (a businessman, a police officer and his wife in the presence of two underage children) and seriously injured a second police officer and another person who were on the spot. Also, from the shootout the escapee's accomplice was shot and killed on the spot. The escapee fled from the spot in a car which was later found burning. At an earlier stage the person in question conspired to commit other murders in Cyprus as part of the same criminal ring that organised the murder in Ayia Napa.
