From September 19, the prison guards, members of the Prison Guard Branch of the Pancyprian Guild EQUALITY, will be on strike indefinitely.
As the guild states in a statement, the reasons for making this decision are:
Firstly, the breach of the promise made by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Stefi Drakou, by the Director General of the Ministry, Louis Panayis, on 4/3/2022 (at the meeting at the Ministry), to upgrade the pay scale of prison guards at the same time as the upgrading of the police officers' ladders and
Secondly, the recent decision to reject the Guild's request for the provision of the special allowance to prison guards by the Ministry of Finance, despite the positive recommendation of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order.
