The mayor of Paphos requests the urgent building upgrade and provision of high quality services at Paphos International Airport in a letter sent to the Senior Executive Director of the airport's managing company, Eleni Kalogirou. On the occasion of the surge in traffic at the airport this summer and the endless queues observed daily, Phaedonas Phaedonos expresses the dissatisfaction of the Municipality of Paphos with the unacceptable situation at Paphos International Airport, both in the departure and arrivals area and in the outdoor waiting areas.
Especially during peak periods, he says, the airport is unable to meet the volume of passengers, resulting in travelers, locals and foreigners, suffering unimaginably. Queues of tens of meters are created in the departure and arrivals halls, while for a temporary decongestion of the situation, both the Airport Management and the ground service providers use the outdoor waiting areas as if they are normal departure rooms.
"They transport passengers to the outdoor waiting areas where they should normally wait only 10-15 minutes for boarding, and many times they wait more than an hour, exposed to adverse weather conditions and a third world environment", complains the Mayor of Paphos. "It is absolutely necessary to complete as soon as possible the procedures for the expansion of the departure and arrivals halls, as well as the outdoor waiting areas, while at the same time upgrading the ground handling services by the providers."
Without delay, at the end of the summer season and at the beginning of November 2022, mr. Phaedonos emphasizes, the construction works for the building upgrade of the airport must begin intensively with a view to implementation at the end of March 2023.
"Both the Municipality of Paphos and the tourist operators of the province will not tolerate the new tourist season finding Pafos Airport in the same degraded situation as in previous years", he warns. "I will assess if I have an update on the planning and timing of your organization for the implementation of the project."
