GIOLOU - END OF INCONVENIENCE IN SIGHT REGARDING COLLAPSED ROAD

Filenews 16 September 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

In November, the section of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road at the entrance of Giolou, which collapsed two years ago, is expected to be reopened to traffic. This was announced today by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, who visited the site and inspected the work carried out there.

Yiannis Karousos mentioned that the project will be in the order of about €900,000, while he pointed out that especially in the district of Paphos, similar piers are observed in other parts of the road network, such as in Natas and Drousia.

"And that's where the procedures for the restoration and permanent solution of the problem are progressing," he stressed. "In the community of Drouseia, the relevant contracts are signed in the coming days at a cost of more than €700,000, while in Nata these works have already begun.

As far as Giolou is concerned, the Department of Public Works had immediately responded with the appearance of the problem and had prepared the relevant studies, but unfortunately after the tenders there were the procedures of the Tenders Revision Authority. It is a difficult technical task, but visiting the construction site one will realize how important a job has been done in order to provide a road network that does not have similar problems in the future."

The president of the community, Giolou, Stavros Vrachnos, expressed his satisfaction for the continuous interest of the Minister of Transport in the area and wished that the assessment that the project will be completed in November will prove correct so that people can now freely use the road.

During his visit to Giolou, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works also visited two churches in the area, Agios Nipios and Agia Irini, which are ancient monuments under the supervision of the Department of Antiquities.
