Nigerian "students" are fooled by a group that smuggles people with promises of scholarships and job opportunities, transfers them to occupied Cyprus and forces them into prostitution, according to today's Turkish Cypriot press.
According to the Press and Information Office, in a report today "Halkin Sesi" writes that the National Office for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Human Beings (NARTIR), announced that "the majority of Nigerian young people who fall into the trap of human traffickers are women and Nigerians are called upon to be careful about studies" in occupied Cyprus.
NARTIR also notes that the spiral believed to be active between Nigeria and occupied Cyprus is taking advantage of the "weak regulation" in relation to education and securing "visas".
According to data from the "Office of Higher Education and External Relations" of the "Ministry of Education", "of the 107,936 registered students that existed in the occupied territories in the year 2021-22, 50,375 came from third countries". Although there is no "official data", it is speculated that half of these students are Nigerians.
