SPACE - SOLAR STORM WILL 'HIT' THE EARTH TOMORROW, 19/7

 Filenews 18 July 2022

It seems to be a busy period for solar activity, as in the last few months something is happening or is happening.

Specifically in March 2022, the Earth was "hit" by separate geomagnetic storms, according to the us and UK government meteorological services.

Earlier this month, a G1 class geomagnetic storm hit the Earth, creating an impressive saddle over Canada.

On Friday, it was reported that a huge solar flare had erupted from the Sun, which could lead to a radio holiday in many parts of the world.

On Saturday, Dr. Tamitha Skov, predicted an "immediate hit" from a solar storm that will take place on Tuesday. She shared the news on social media along with a NASA video.

Dr. Skov is a researcher at the federally funded Aeospace Corporation and an award-winning science educator.

Solar storm

"Immediate hit," he tweeted. "A snake-like thread that was ejected by a major solar storm is heading towards Earth."

"NASA's model predicts an impact on July 19. There could be a disturbance in GPS and amateur radio," she added.

"The long snake-like thread, made a spinner from the Sun in an amazing ballet," the educational scientist wrote in explaining the video above.

"The magnetic orientation of this solar storm directed by earth will be difficult to predict. G2 level conditions (possibly G3) may occur if the magnetic field of this storm is oriented southward," he added.

There is no need to worry

With the Sun now in the active phase of its 11-year solar cycle, incidents like these are expected to increase.

The question now is: how harmful are they really?

The answer is that they can cause significant power outages in GPS navigation systems, which could end up disrupting the travel of small aircraft and ships. Other than that, however, there is no need to worry.
