PROSECUTOR'S APPEAL TO THE SENTENCE FOR THE FATAL ACCIDENT IN AYIA NAPA

 Filenews 5 July 2022

An appeal against the court's decision to impose a 12-month prison sentence on a British tourist who lured, fatally injured and abandoned a tourist in Ayia Napa, was filed by the Attorney General, George Savvidis.

According to a post by the Legal Service, after a study, the decision on a sentence was judged to be insufficient.

It is recalled that according to the case, the 26-year-old dragged, in a buggy-type vehicle, a 46-year-old woman from Sweden who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing, on The Island Avenue in Ayia Napa last May.

He then left the scene on foot and was later located and arrested. At the same time, he underwent an alcohol test, with an indication of 44μg% instead of 9μg%, as well as a preliminary narcotest test with a positive indication.
