Through financial and other difficulties caused for two years now by the pandemic and lately the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the Municipality of Peyia nevertheless manages to carry out a huge task.

The mayor of Peyia, Marinos Lambrou, in his statements to "F", pointed out that the construction works of the tennis court have already begun. At the end of these works, he stressed, the sports infrastructure of the municipality is completed, which includes the Municipal Stadium, an auxiliary football field, a basketball and volleyball court and a futsal court.

The completion of the sports infrastructure is followed by the major project of improving the central avenue Michalaki Kyprianou, as far as its first section is concerned, said Marinos Lambrou. The completion time of the works is 18 months and their expiration is scheduled for December 25, 2023. The amount of the Contract amounts to €3.3 million, plus VAT and the project is funded by the Municipality of Peyia.

Marinos Lambrou also stressed that the procedures for the coastal pedestrian street of Peyia, the largest in Cyprus, which will be an urban project costing €2.5 million, have already been launched. The first phase of the project, he said, will be two kilometres long and will be part of the wider coastal pedestrian street that starts from the marina area in Potima and will end at the port of Agios Georgios in Peyia, covering a total distance of 14 kilometres along the coast. "The first one provides for the construction of an amphitheatre, an outdoor gym, a basketball court, a kiosk and a playground. This is a very important project that will upgrade the Municipality of Peyia. The completion of the project is estimated at 18 months", he stressed.
