NEW FEES AND CRITERIA FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF DOMESTIC WORKERS

 Filenews 11 July 2022

The changes in the fees and criteria for the employment of domestic workers were announced by the Civil Registry and Migration Department.

Specifically, the Civil Registry and Migration Department of the Ministry of Interior announced that the criteria and the relevant fees for the employment of domestic workers in the Republic have been revised. The purpose of the revision is to simplify the procedures for issuing and renewing residence permits and to streamline fees.

The existing criteria are abolished and replaced with new ones, which also include income criteria, which have been determined according to the marital status of the employer. The new categories of beneficiary employers are:

(a) families;

(b) single-parent families;

(c) solitary persons, and

(d) persons over the age of 65.

In addition, the specific needs of vulnerable and vulnerable groups of the population are taken into account.

The new fees are linked to the type of temporary residence and employment permit requested and not to the years of residence, as was the case until now. Each license issued will be valid from one (1) to three (3) years.

The result of this revision is to make it easier for citizens to process the employment of domestic workers and to reduce existing charges.

The implementation of the new criteria, as well as the revised fees, will take effect on Monday 18 July 2022.
