EU COMMISSION - GREEN LIGHT FOR CYPRUS DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB

The European Commission has approved the establishment and operation of the Cyprus Digital Innovation Hub (DiGiNN) at the Cyprus Institute.

A press release from IKY states that DiGiNN, which will operate next September, ranked third in Europe, among hundreds of applications, receiving the highest possible score (15/15) from independent evaluators abroad.

This is a new strategic partnership of the most important Cypriot organizations in the fields of high technology, research and entrepreneurship, coordinated by the Cyprus Institute, created to accelerate the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises and the public sector through the provision of specialized services.

The Hub will act as an on-stop-shop to support the uptake of new digital technologies – particularly artificial intelligence, high performance computing and cybersecurity.

The Services of the Hub include information and training, consulting services, technology transfer, provision of access to technological infrastructure and laboratories, support for access to public and private funding, mediation with business partners in Cyprus and abroad.

As stated by the Coordinator of the European Digital Innovation Hub DiGiNN, Dr. Vassilis Tsakalos, the goal of the Digital Innovation Hub is to contribute to the cultivation of digital culture in society, to the upgrading of the digital maturity of businesses and public organizations as well as to the acceleration of the digital transition of the Cypriot economy.

"At the same time, the Hub's strategy includes specific actions that combine the vision of the digital transition with that of green growth and tackling and adapting to climate change," said Dr. Tsakalos.

The new partnership includes the Cyprus Institute as coordinator, the CYENS Centre of Excellence as co-coordinator, the KOIOS Centre of Excellence, the company PWC, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the local chambers, a number of faculties and units of the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus University of Technology, the Federation of Employers and Industrialists, the electi company, the IDEA Innovation Centre, Cyprus Seeds, Chrysalis Leap, the Paphos Institute of Innovation and the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.

The central facilities of the Hub will be at the Cyprus Institute and CYENS, while all the infrastructures of the partnership bodies will function as Centres for the support of the activities of the Hub and the provision of services to businesses and public organizations.

The operation of the Cyprus Digital Innovation Hub is supported by the European Commission through the "Digital Europe" program as well as by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
