Filenews 5 July 2022 - by Despina Psyllou

High temperatures and intense discomfort follow in the coming days, opening the curtain for a hot summer with 40s.

The mercury climbs up to five degrees above normal values, at least until the middle of the week, while a slight drop is expected towards the weekend. As the director of the Department of Meteorology, Kleanthis Nikolaidis, clarified, the high temperatures in combination with high humidity levels and low wind speed, increase the feeling of discomfort. However, he said, we are not going through a heatwave period. "We are at 39 degrees Celsius. We are not far from normal levels. After all, always in the summer months there are days warmer than normal."

Today the weather will be mostly clear. The temperature will rise to around 39 degrees inland, around 31 degrees on the coast and around 30 degrees in the mountains. In the evening, locally and especially on the coast, low cloudiness and fog formation are expected. The weather conditions will be similar in the coming days. However, from tomorrow until Friday, a slight drop in temperature is expected, mainly on the coast, while on Sunday and next Monday, there may be a further drop in temperature.
