With the warning that if within the day the salaries of May are not paid to the staff from tomorrow there will be an escalation of the measures, the bus drivers of the Pafos Transport Organization proceeded today to a two-hour work stoppage.

The city buses stopped their routes from 8.00 to 10.00 in the morning and the drivers remained gathered in the parking lot of the vehicles waiting for newer ones from the employer's side. The District Secretary of SEK Petros Dimosthenous stressed that according to the relevant legislation, the payment of the salary must be made no later than the last day of the month, adding that because there were many delays in the previous months, culminating in the month of April where there was a delay of five days in the payment of the salary.

"We had warned the company and the Ministry that we would no longer tolerate any delay in the payment of salaries," he stressed. "If by the afternoon there is no movement on the part of the company and the Ministry for the payment of salaries, tomorrow morning they will go on an indefinite strike"

On behalf of PEO, Andreas Andreou stressed that the same phenomenon of non-timely payment of salary is repeated. We have sent letters and we were warning, but unfortunately they all fell on deaf ears, he said.

"Today's two-hour work stoppage is a warning," he concluded. "If the employees' salaries are not paid, tomorrow their demonstrations will continue with an indefinite strike."
