The GHS is here to stay in the lives of the citizens, it is the message of the Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipantelas, for the completion of the three years since the ghsy's implementation.
"The GHS, these three years, has gone through complexities and managed to survive, sending the message to all directions that the GHS is here to stay in the lives of citizens," the Minister of Health says, stressing that the GHS has not only withstood unprecedented pressure conditions, such as that of the pandemic, but has proved that it can shield public health in the best and most efficient way.
At the same time, the Health Insurance Organization has prepared an anniversary video for the 3 years of the GHS's contribution to our country.
The message of the Minister is complete. Health:
Three years are completed today since the ghs was launched. A social conquest that was a demand of society for many decades and with the political will of the President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Anastasiades became a reality. For the past three years the GHS has been embraced by the citizens, serving thousands of patients per day and the attention of all of us should be focused on its continuous improvement and upgrading, on the confrontation of any problems that may arise without changing the philosophy of the system.
The GHS, these three years, went through complexes and managed to survive, sending the message to all directions that the GHS is here to stay in the lives of citizens.
The numbers are indicative:
- 917,000 GHS beneficiaries have been registered in a Personal Doctor's list,
- 777,000 beneficiaries visited their Personal Doctors,
- 756,000 beneficiaries visited the specialists,
- 769,000 beneficiaries were supplied with medicines,
- 159,000 beneficiaries received inpatient care services.
In the three years of the GHS's life, the following participate:
- 711 Personal Doctors
- 1969 Medical Specialists
- 159 Workshops
- 1076 Other health professionals
- 687 Dentists
- 587 Pharmacies
- 58 Hospitals
The GHS has not only withstood unprecedented pressure conditions, such as that of the pandemic, but has proved that it can shield public health in the best and most efficient way.
At the same time, in order to ensure the sustainability of the Health System itself, actions and actions are underway by the Health Insurance Organisation that will contribute to the normalization of the operation of the System and the confrontation of abuses. These include, among others,:
- Operation of on-call clinics by personal doctors for adults and children, which will operate in the afternoons and holidays.
- Integration of the TAEP of private hospitals that are contracted with the GHS,
- Application of more severe penalties to offending service providers and/or rightholders;
- Intensification of controls in cooperation with external consultants and the Pancyprian Medical Association,
- Inclusion in the GHS of additional innovative medicines, and
- Implementation of an integrated information program for GHS beneficiaries on the proper use of the System and the reduction of abuses.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As the Ministry of Health, we will ensure in every way the existence of the General Health System. The GHS is here to stay and belongs to the citizens of this country, its providers and beneficiaries. I appeal to everyone to protect the greatest reform that has taken place in our country since 1960.
