INQUIRIES ABROAD REGARDING THE 'RING' WITH THE SPECIAL BAG

Filenews 1 June 2022 - by Natasha Christoforou

It is not excluded that they are members of an international spiral, the three suspects from Romania, who were arrested by members of the Larnaka ICF, for thefts with a "special" bag, from well-known shops at the Metropolis mall in Larnaca.

These are two men, 27 and 29 years old and a 29-year-old woman, who managed in their one week's stay in Cyprus, to grab clothing and footwear of thousands of euros, through three specially equipped bags, which do not allow the activation of the alarm system. Already two shop owners in the Larnaca mall reported thefts, while the suspects were also linked to the theft of children's clothing from a well-known store in the mall of Nicosia. It seems, however, that the spiral spread its tentacles to Paphos, where the investigations were extended after information obtained by the Police.

Despite the fact that so far only three complaints have been made, the Police estimate that they will increase in the coming period, since many of the stolen items found in their possession are not linked to the three stores. The suspects, who pleaded guilty, caught up and sent two packages, believed to contain stolen goods, to Romania and steps are being taken to identify their recipients.

The case came to light last Thursday, when a shop owner at the Metropolis mall complained to the Larnaca Police that he found through the CCTV that three persons stole children's and women's clothes worth €7,000. On the same day, the security officer of the mall complained to the Police that an unknown person in possession of this type of bag, as soon as he noticed the security guards, abandoned it and fled. The security officer found that there was a quantity of clothing in the bag of another store and handed it over to the manager.

The investigators of the Larnaka ICF located the movements of the suspects in closed circuit surveillance and found out where they rented a car from. When on Thursday afternoon the suspects rushed to surrender it, police officers handcuffed them. The three suspects were brought before the Larnaca District Court, which ordered their eight-day detention.
