LOW INTENSITY QUAKE IN LIMASSOL TODAY

An earthquake of 2.6 Richter occurred in Limassol at noon on Sunday, the Geological Survey Department said in a statement.

Specifically, it states that on Sunday, at 13:23, a noticeable earthquake of magnitude 2.6 on the Richter scale was recorded by the seismological network of the Department. Four aftershocks followed by 15:00, with a larger magnitude of 1.9 on the Richter scale.

It is noted that the earthquake had an epicentre in the sea area of Limassol, 4 km east of the city and a focal depth of 13 km. It was slightly felt in the city of Limassol.

It is added that the phenomenon is monitored by the Seismological Centre of the Geological Survey Department and the relevant information (seismic parameters, interactive maps, etc.) is published on the websites and social media of the Seismological Center of the Geological Survey Department.

Given the very low intensity of this particular earthquake, the Department considers that it is not appropriate to make additional statements to the Media, the announcement concludes.
