TWO FIREFIGHTING PLANES ON THE ISLAND FROM SPAIN BY EARLY JUNE

 Filenews 2 May 2022

By the beginning of June, the ministry of agriculture will be in full readiness to deal with any fires, in view of the new summer season.

As the minister responsible, Costas Kadis, told The Third Party, the ministry is in negotiations for the supply of additional aircraft and already next week, he said, two firefighting planes are expected to arrive in Cyprus from Spain.

Mr Kadis also talked about the possibility of adding two more 'Kamov' helicopters from Russia, if there is approval from Brussels for an exemption on this issue which is of the highest security, as he noted.

According to the agriculture minister, the process of recruiting about one hundred and ten forest firefighters will be completed later this week in order to strengthen the firefighting forces.
