The Tala community authority has recently carried out a huge task of shielding against fire, so that tragedies such as those of the summer of 2021 do not happen again or at least the community is as shielded as possible.
In this context, the Community Council of Tala has completed in the first stage the plan to shield the community with firefighting works in order to minimize in the future the possibility of similar disasters. Crews with special heavy machinery proceeded to the creation of new firebreaks, which in combination with those that had already been created in the summer season of 2021, will create obstacles to the promotion of a fiery front, but also will allow the immediate and drastic intervention of firefighting forces at the heart of the problem.
This design was extended in recent days to the area near the Monastery of Agios Neophytos, where on both sides of the approach to the monastery, namely from the main road Tala-Agios Neophytos and from the path that passes through the grove to Egleistra Street, fire lanes and other protective works have also been created.
Speaking to "F", the president of the Community Council of Tala, Areti Pieridou, stressed that the fire-proofing of Tala was treated for some time as a matter of the highest priority by the local authority. The significant damages that this time were not limited to the natural environment, but literally entered the residences of the people, she stressed, made it even more imperative to complete the works for the protection of the settlement.
"For this reason," said Ms. Pieridou, "for months now we have put in place an extensive plan for the creation of a fire ring that essentially covers the entire area of our responsibility. Already, firebreaks have been constructed in various areas of Tala that have dense vegetation and at the same time are adjacent to residential developments, but also around the famous Monastery of Agios Neophytos, in order to ensure that there will not again be a similar disaster as the one of the summer 2021 which we experienced.
