TURKEY TO CREATE NEW AIRLINE ONLY FOR RUSSIAN TOURISTS

 Filenews 11 April 2022

The Turkish authorities intend to create an additional airline that will focus exclusively on transporting Russian tourists to Turkish resorts. Thanks to the new structure, Turkey plans to attract additional tourists of about a million from Russia to its territory amid sanctions from the West.

"It is planned to create a new airline for charter flights to resorts," the Gazeta.ru notes, citing data from Turkish Sabah.

Flights of the new airline's routes to Russian cities are scheduled to be operated from Antalya. All work will focus exclusively on customers from the Russian Federation.

Until a new structure is created, Turkish airline Turkish Airlines intends to reduce the lack of seats in aircraft that has intensified since the imposition of sanctions against Russia by allocating parts of seats on its flights to Russian tour operators.

After the start of the military special operation of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine and the rise in prices, the citizens of the Russian Federation sharply reduced, by about 10 times, the number of reservations for excursions to the resorts of Turkey and Egypt. In the context of the collapse of the rouble, many citizens turned to austerity, and the entertainment sector, including holidays in foreign resorts, was among the first to see the cut in  spending by the Russians.

In order to restore passenger traffic from the Russian Federation, on which the Turkish economy depends significantly, the country's authorities plan to issue a $300 million loan to the tour operators ANEX Tour, Pegas Touristik and Coral Travel this spring.
