TRADE DEFICIT INCREASED IN JANUARY

The trade deficit of Cyprus amounted to €523.6m. for January 2022 compared to €434.3 mil. in the corresponding month of 2021.

According to data released by the Statistical Office for January 2022, the total imports of goods (from EU Member States and from third countries) for January 2022 was €746.0 million. compared to €590.6 mil. for January 2021, an increase of 26.3%.

It is noted that the total exports of goods (to EU Member States and third countries) for January 2022 were €222.4 million. compared to €156.3 mil. for January 2021, an increase of 42.3%.

The trade deficit was €523.6m. for January 2022 compared to €434.3 mil. in the corresponding month of 2021.

It is reported that the European Union was the main source of supply of goods to Cyprus with a share of €520.8 million. on total imports, while imports from other European countries were €47.7m. in January 2022. Imports from the rest of the world were €177.5 mil.

It is also noted that exports to the European Union amounted to €70.7m, while exports to other European countries were €22.5m. in January 2022. Exports to other countries of the world were €129.2 mil.
