THE STUDY FOR THE PAPHOS MARINA HAS BEEN DELIVERED

Filenews 11 April 2022 - by Dora Christodoulou

While the study that had been assigned since the summer of 2021 to the joint venture Deloitte Ltd and Triton Consulting Engineers S.A., for the co-administrative development of the Pafos marina was completed and delivered to the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, so far no information has been given to the provincial bodies, many of whom have already begun to protest strongly against "secretiveness" of the Deputy Ministry and for deliberate delays of state and other bodies, with the aim of keeping the Pafos marina on paper.

As "F" reveals today, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has communicated to the Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the study for the development has been completed and delivered to it, but there is still nothing to be announced since it should be presented first to the Council of Ministers for decisions. Confirming this fact, the President of the Pafos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, George May, said that in the meantime, at least a first and informal briefing of the Pafos stakeholders could be made about the findings of the study.

"On the contrary, we are again witnessing a delay in the processes that has never been observed in any other similar development that has been promoted throughout the rest of Cyprus," he said. "The reality is that while the state decision was that the marinas' deployments would be promoted simultaneously for the whole of Cyprus, only in the case of Paphos were required things that exceeded even the provisions of the tender for the project and many were covered behind the alleged controversy among the Pafian businessmen over the project."

The Pafos marina was decided in 2006 to be constructed at the location Potima of Kissonerga, on the coastal avenue of Coral Bay, and is now characterized by all the institutions of Pafos as the most characteristic example of a project that while everyone talks about the need to promote large development projects, which will boost the economic, commercial and tourist development of the place and at the same time will contribute positively to the field of employment, however, its implementation remains unduly stagnant.

The Pafos marina will have a capacity of approximately 1,000 vessels and will include more than 42,000 square meters of residential and commercial developments.
