THE CITY OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE THAT RUSSIA WILL ATTEMPT TO 'TAKE'

 Filenews 2 April 2022

Time flies and time has acquired a different density for both sides. For the past 24 hours, Ukrainians have continued to recapture cities. A journalist named Olekei Sorokin described the "mass exodus" of Russians from the outskirts of Kiev. Another reporter broadcast "Unbelievable. Two full axes of attack just collapsed and were abandoned within 1 or 2 days. They just left without achieving anything. We expected the Russians to establish themselves to prevent Ukraine from strengthening Donbass, but they are leaving completely, en masse... unbelievable."

We recall that as of Thursday, Ukraine had regained the city of Bucha. There are now dozens of cities and areas from which the Russians seem to be leaving. At the same time, however, they hit Odessa with three missiles that started from Crimea. It is not certain how many victims this attack left behind. It is, however, an unexpected blow when you consider that Odessa had been out of the frame for a long time. The Ukrainian army, in fact, said that the anti-aircraft defence prevented further attempted missile attacks against critical infrastructure in the Odessa region.

Be that as it may, it is, like Mariupol, a strategically important city. Mariupol continues to be at the heart of this conflict. To date, it has not been possible to evacuate the approximately 100,000 residents who remain trapped. It became possible, however, to transfer some people to Zaporizia.

The Red Cross has announced that it will continue its efforts today. Moscow seems to be focusing on Donbass. Knowing the Kremlin's intentions, the Ukrainian president pledged to "fight for every measure of our land." They already have control of Izuum, an important city between Kharkiv and the separatist areas. According to the BBC's analysis, Russia will attempt to bring under its sovereignty Sloviansk, a city of 125,000 inhabitants. In the midst of all this, it became known that the United States is sending supplies and equipment to Ukraine for the possibility of a Russian attack with chemical or biological weapons. It's something the White House hasn't ruled out.

At the same time, negotiations are ongoing, with Tayyip Erdogan saying he will pressure Putin to meet Zelensky in Istanbul, but there is concern about whether Russia will back down after the fuel depot attack in Belgorod. The helicopters flew to a low altitude, hitting eight fuel tanks. The fire spread. The Kremlin is talking about undermining peace negotiations, and UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, will visit Moscow on Sunday.

His goal, in his words, is to "achieve a humanitarian ceasefire". Among the important contacts of the last few hours is that of  both Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian president stressed the "need to implement the initiative to establish humanitarian corridors". Meanwhile, the West accuses China of carrying out a massive cyberattack on Ukraine's military and nuclear facilities in preparation for Russia's invasion. There are, in fact, specific memoranda of the secret services that came into the possession of the Times.
