SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL INDICATORS

Epidemiological indicators show a significant drop, according to the data of the National Report on coronavirus published by the Ministry of Health.

Specifically, a significant drop in daily coronavirus cases is recorded after 40,795 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were identified in 14 days. Similarly,  the April 1 National Report recorded nearly 60,000 cases over a 14-day period.

Analytically:

As of April 11, 2022, 457,257 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Republic of Cyprus, with 986 deaths due to COVID-19 (COVID-19 mortality: 0.2%).

• The cumulative 14-day incidence of COVID-19 (14-day diagnosed cases per 100,000 inhabitants) is 4,594.

• In the last 14 days (March 29 - April 11) 40,795 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded:

o The median age of COVID-19 cases was 37 years (Intraquartile range: 21-54 years), 54.5% concerns women (n=16,223), 45.5% in men (n=13,562) - out of 29,785 cases (73%) with relevant information available.

o Based on the epidemiological history, 2.4% (n=993) were cases with a recent travel history, while 97.6% (n=39,528) concerns cases of domestic transmission – out of 40,521 cases (99.3%) with the relevant information available.

• As of April 13, 2022, 184 patients with active COVID-19 (diagnosed until April 11) were hospitalized (based on registered data and including those discharged, transferred or died on April 13). Their median age was 82 years (Intraquartile range: 70 - 87 years), with 56.8% (n=84) concerning men (out of 148 people with the relevant information available) and 40.4% (n=44) people from the Limassol district (out of 109 people with the relevant information available). In total, 20 (15.6%) of people with COVID-19 who were hospitalized reported underlying diseases (out of 128 people with the relevant information available).

• According to the registered data, as of April 13, 2022, 12 people with active COVID-19 (diagnosed until April 11 including those transferred or died on April 13) were in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – 9 (75%) were intubated. The median age of these COVID-19 patients in ICU was 69 years (Intraquartile range: 58-77 years). Of the 11 patients with available information on gender identity, 8 were men (72.7%). In people with COVID-19 hospitalized in ICU during this period, the existence of underlying diseases has been recorded in 4 (36.4%) cases (from 11 people with the relevant information available).

• In the last 14 days, 41,857 molecular tests (PCR) (4,713.6 per 100,000 population) and 970,320 antigen rapid tests (109,270.3 per 100,000 population) have been performed.
