March is a record month for the lowest average daily minimum temperature since certain stations were installed and operated, the Department of Meteorology announced on Monday.
In a statement on the average daily minimum temperature for March of this year, the Department of Meteorology says that there were low minimum temperatures in several areas of Cyprus.
Specifically, it is reported that the daily minimum temperatures recorded at the above stations were low enough for the month of March, "so as to rank it as the record month for the lowest average daily minimum temperature, since the installation and operation of these stations."
According to the announcement, the average daily minimum temperature this March, as measured at the Athalassa station, was 3.9°C and was the lowest average daily minimum temperature measured since 1983, that is, since this station was installed and operated thereafter.
At Larnaka Airport station it was 5.3°C, and it was the lowest average daily minimum temperature measured since 1977, that is, since the installation and operation of this station, it is reported.
At the Limassol Port station it was 6°C, and it was the lowest average daily minimum temperature measured since 1976, that is, since the installation and operation of this station onwards, it is added.
Also, the average daily minimum temperature this March as measured at the station of the Forest College of Prodromos was -1°C and at the station of Polis Chrysochous it was 7.4 °C, which ranks them second and eighth respectively in relation to the lowest average daily minimum temperature, since these stations were installed and operated, the announcement concludes.
