There were 128,840 tourist arrivals in March 2022, with arrivals for the first quarter of the year amounting to 244,705, exceeding the performance of both the corresponding quarter of 2021 and 2020.
It should be noted that March was affected by the imposition of a ban on flights by the EU to Russian aircraft, as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which was imposed at the end of February.
According to data released by the Statistical Service, tourist arrivals in March 2022 amounted to 128,840 compared to 8,811 recorded in March 2021, as well as 55,342 arrivals recorded in March 2020.
For the period January – March 2022, tourist arrivals amounted to 244,705 compared to 17,747 in the corresponding period of 2021, 246,556 in the period January – March 2020, as well as 357,475 in the period January – March 2019.
March arrivals account for 76% of arrivals in the corresponding month of 2019 (a record year), while arrivals in the first quarter of 2022 account for 68% in the first quarter of 20219.
Arrivals from the UK were the main source of tourism for March 2022, accounting for 34.8% (44,829) of total arrivals, arrivals from Greece 9.9% (12,810), arrivals from Israel 8.6% (11,122), arrivals from Germany 8.2% (10,592) and arrivals from Poland 7.6% (9,805).
