Valdimir Putin will speak with Recep Tayyip Erdogan today on the occasion of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Turkish presidency spokesman, speaking to reporters in Istanbul, confirmed that the two presidents will communicate on Sunday. According to Ibrahim Kalin, Turkey remains willing to host talks between Russian and Ukrainian officers, while calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
"The president will convey to him the message that we repeat from the beginning: Immediately end this war, give a chance to the ceasefire and negotiations, create a humanitarian corridor and remove civilians," Kalin said in an interview with the private Turkish channel NTV.
The representative of the Turkish Presidency then made it clear that his country cannot abandon the ties it has with Ukraine and Russia. That's why it's committed to hosting talks "at the leadership level."
We recall that the Turkish Foreign Minister, speaking on Friday, appeared optimistic his counterparts from Russia and Ukraine could be in Turkey in the context of the holding of the Diplomacy Forum in Antalya on 11-13 March.
