The Ministry of Transport is directed towards the use of technology and especially drones for the delivery of postal packages.
In today's statements, during the conduct of a drone test flight, the Minister of Transport, Yiannis Karousos, said that "the Cyprus Post offices are being upgraded and especially after the cancellation of the decision to privatize them, the government is moving towards their modernization. This includes the delivery of postal items, via drones, which are the present and not the future in postal deliveries."
He added that "today we are participating with 6 other countries in an EU programme, where there is a demonstration of what kind of service we can offer with this technology, while the challenges are being addressed".
He also argued that in Cyprus and because of the distances we are very optimistic that this technology can be utilized and in the future instead of distributors will be hired pilots of drones. He also noted that technology is the present in the post offices, while he argued that it will facilitate delivery to remote areas while improving productivity.
