The Russian Defence Ministry announced that no one used two humanitarian corridors that were created near the cities of Mariupol and Volnovaca in Ukraine today and accused Ukrainian "nationalists" of preventing civilians from leaving, the Reuters agency reported, citing the Russian news agency RIA.
It is recalled that earlier the Russian Ministry of Defence announced the entry into force of the ceasefire. Civilians will be allowed to leave Mariupol, Ukraine between 12:00 and 17:00 Moscow time (11:00-14:00 Greek and Ukrainian time), according to the city's authorities.
In statements that are in stark contrast to statements by Ukrainian officials, the ministry said Russian forces were fired upon after the creation of humanitarian corridors, during a partial ceasefire.
The Mariupol municipal authority said earlier that Russia is not fully adhering to the ceasefire, and Ukrainian authorities said they are considering reports that Russian troops are using the ceasefire to advance toward Mariupol.
Kiev: Russians continue bombing
For their part, the Ukrainian authorities of the city, the evacuation could not be completed as it could not be ensured a safe humanitarian escape route for civilians after the Russian troops continued the bombings.
Specifically, the deputy mayor of Mariupol said that people continue to be bombed as they try to leave the city.
Specifically, Deputy Mayor Sergei Orlov told BBC News: "At first our people said that the bombings stopped for a while, but then they continued to use rockets to bomb Mariupol. People are very afraid."
The municipality called on citizens who had gathered at the city's exit points "to return to the shelters."
"Negotiations are being held with Russia to establish (a ceasefire) and ensure the creation of a humanitarian corridor," he added.
